Miami Heat Becomes the First Five Seed to Make the NBA Finals in NBA History

Miami Heat: Miami Heat take down Boston Celtics, move on to NBA Finals | More sports News - Times of India

Miami Heat made history yesterday, becoming the first #5 seed in NBA history to make the NBA Finals.

The Miami Heat face their most formidable challenge of the playoffs, going against a LeBron James lead team and a dominant player in Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James accounted for two of three championships in Miami history; it’s a perfect storyline to play against the team. He won his first NBA championship and went against his former Head Coach Erik Spoelstra.

Miami Heat lives for the underdog title and love taking down teams no one expected them to beat, such as the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics.

If you think the Los Angeles Lakers will have an easy walk into a championship win, you haven’t watched the Miami Heat play this year; they play gritty and with a chip on their shoulder.

Jimmy Butler is the epitome of what the culture is with the Miami Heat a hardworking and leave it all on the court type player. Butler has been averaging 20.7 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 1.9 steals per game. Butler will need to average a little more then 20 points if he wants the Heat to pull the major upset over the Lakers.

The young nucleus for the Heat has been the main reason for their late playoff run. Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson have played phenomenal.

Tyler Herro has been a huge boost off the bench and will be a significant factor in the NBA Finals due to the scarcity of depth to the Lakers bench. Andre Iguodala will be another key off the bench; they need his championship pedigree to have the young guys ready for the bright lights since he is the only one on the team with championship pedigree outside of Udonis Harlem, but he doesn’t play. This is Igudola's sixth straight NBA Finals.

Bam Adebayo has played phenomenal in the playoffs finishing last night game with 32 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists in an elimination game. He will need to come close to those numbers as he prepares to go up against the best Power Forward in the league in Anthony Davis.

The Heat's wildcard is Goran Dragic; if he plays in the NBA Finals as he did in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Lakers, who are suspect at best at the guard position, the Heat will give the Lakers all they can handle.

Game 1 will be this Wednesday at 9 PM ET on ABC.

I predict the series to go seven games, with the Los Angles Lakers winning the 2020 NBA Finals.

Deion Sanders Could be the Stepping Stone to Bring Big Time Talent Back to HBCU Sports

vendettasportsmedia

This past Monday, Deion Sanders became the Head Football Coach at Jackson State.

For those that don’t know, Jackson State is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). This past season Jackson State finished 4-8 overall and 3-4 in the SWAC.

The SWAC is one of four historically black colleges and university conferences(HBCU); the other three conferences are the CIAA, MEAC, and the SIAC conferences.

Deion Sanders is a huge deal for not just Jackson State University, but HBCU schools in general.

The first big signing this year for HBCU sports was Makur Maker signing to Howard University, but Deion Sanders becoming the head football coach at Jackson State University takes HBCU sports to another level.

Deion already has a Mississippi State freshman defensive back, Javorrius Selmon, transferring to play with Jackson State because he wants to play for Deion Sanders. That is the first of many transfers and signings to come.

This could get the ball rolling to get more big-name former star professional athletes to coach at HBCUs and current five-star athletes that are currently at these “power conference schools” such as LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Kansas to transfer to a HBCU and change the narrative and bring the same revenue they are giving these PWI institutions to HBCU’s.

HBCU’s sports talent level in the 70-90s was astounding. During the 70s-90s, HBCU had high caliber talent such as Willis Reed at Grambling State University, Earl the Pearl Monroe at Winston Salem, Rick Mahorn at Hampton, Shannon Sharpe at Shannon Sharpe, Jerry Rice at Mississippi Valley State University, Michael Strahan at Texas Southern Dick Barnett at Tennessee State, Edwin Moses at Morehouse, Wilma Rudolph at Tennessee State, Yolanda Laney at Cheyney University, Doug Williams at Grambling State, Steve McNair at Alcorn State, and Althea Gibson at Florida State.

In the 2000s era, the talent level had dropped off. HBCU’s lost the talent level to the big schools because of “more TV exposure,” but with Deion Sanders, kids know the cameras will be tuned into HBCU sports, now that Primetime is in the building.

With what’s been going on in the news due to continued police brutality, if it isn’t clear by now the way people of non-African American descent think of African Americans, you probably live under a rock.

It is now more crucial than ever to focus on building up our own community because we are always helping other races, but when it comes to social injustices matters to African Americans, most people from different races go MIA.

It is time to take back what is ours, and what better way to start that by building up powerhouse HBCUs sports programs to generate revenue for our HBCUs and go toe to toe like the old days against these powerhouse PWI programs that were built by star African Americans athletes.

8-0 not Enough to Receive Playoff Berth

The Phoenix Suns wrapped up their bubble show with another astiunding win against the Dallas Mavericks 128-102. This tallied their win total to 8-0 in the bubble.

However, this was not enough for the Suns, to secure a playoff spot, nevertheless a playin game invite.

Fans were all looking forward to a play-in game this Saturday between the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers, two teams that have been electrifying in the bubble.

Unfortunately, the Memphis Grizzlies came into the bubble with a 3.5 game lead for the 8 seed. The Memphis Grizzlies struggled immensely in the bubble with a record of 2-6, but was able to pull off a win last night against the Milwaukee Bucks 119-106. The Grizzlies have struggled with injuries, the major one being with young promising star Jaren Jackson, Jr.

Devin Booker has filled up the stat sheet in the bubble he has averaged 30.3 points per game,  six assists per game, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He has unequivocally put the Phoneix Suns on his back.

In my opinion, since the Grizzlies and Suns had the same record the fans should have voted on who gets the last play-in spot since this is the first time we ever had a play-in game in NBA history.

The NBA should keep the play-in game format for seasons to come when everything returns to normal, I feel like it brings more engagement and excitement to the NBA.

In the end the future is bright in Phoenix, if they build from the momentum they created in the bubble barring any big offseason trades.

Seattle Seahawks Lands Star Safety Jamal Adams

Jamal Adams finally got what he asked for months later.

The New York Jets traded Jamal Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for the 2021 first-round pick, 2021 third-round pick, 2022 first-round pick, and safety Brandon McDougald.

This trade brings a big-play safety they’ve been missing since Earl Thomas signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 free agency.

Jamal Adams has been in the league for three years and has substantially been productive each year. In his three years, he has recorded 210 solo tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. He also has made the Pro Bowl twice, as well as being named First-Team All-Pro this past season.

He would substantially help the Seattle Seahawks secondary which was once known as the Legion of Boom. He’s a major upgrade from Bradley McDougald.

Is Seattle all-in on a championship run, only time will tell?

Patrick Mahomes Breaks the Bank with NFL’s Richest Contract Deal

Yesterday, star Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a ten-year extension contract worth $450 million.

Patrick Mahomes is guaranteed $63 million at signing and up to $140 million injuries guaranteed.

Patrick Mahomes now has the highest NFL contract in history as well as raising the bar for Quarterback contracts.

Mahomes is well-deserving of this contract after bringing his team back down big against the Houston Texans in the divisional game 21-0 in the first quarter, to come back to win 51-31, or coming back against the Tennessee Titans to win 35-21, or to come back down 20-10 late in the fourth quarter against the San Fransisco 49ers, to win his first-ever Super Bowl and first-ever Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs franchise!

Patrick Mahomes has always shown up in the big games and this new deal shows what happens when you produce on a consistent level.

Prove it Contract for Star Quarterback Cam Newton

Last Sunday, the New England Patriots signed star Quarterback Cam Newton.

Cam Newton has been accustomed to injuries in the last few seasons.
In 2014, he got into a car accident which resulted in a Back Vertebral Fracture.

Cam Newton hasn’t played 14 games in one season since 2018.
The two games he missed was the Panthers shutting him down due to a shoulder injury that he played through the whole season. Cam Newton had undergone shoulder surgery in Jan 2018.

Other injuries he has dealt with in his career are Chest Rib Fracture and Ankle tears.

Last season, Cam Newton injured his left foot which was later announced as a Pedal Lisfranc Sprain in week two which lead to him sitting out the rest of the season.

Cam Newton when healthy is an electrifying Quarterback who can beat you with his arm as well as his legs.

In nine NFL seasons, Cam Newton has thrown for 29,041 passing yards, 182 passing touchdowns, 4,806 rushing yards, 58 rushing touchdowns.  He also has made the Pro Bowl team three times, First Team All-Pro in 2015, 17 game-winning drives, and one Super Bowl appearance. He has also won 2011 Offensive NFL Rookie of the Year, Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year, 2015 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2015, and has been in the NFL Top 100 ranking from 2012-2019, with his peak being in 2014 ranking as low #24.

Cam Newton gets another shot to show everyone that he still has it with the signing in New England.

However, the one year $550 K deal with the Patriots, looks like they brought him in for insurance backup if young promising Quarterback Jarrett Stidham struggles early during the regular season. Cam Newton also has a base salary of $1.05 million. Newton can make up to $6.45 million in incentives/per-game roster bonuses.

Say what you want about Cam, but when it comes to crunch time he knows how to win 68-56-1 record in nine seasons.

If Cam Newton can stay healthy it is no brainer he should start week 1 over Jarrett Stidham!

Makur Maker Could be the Spark to more Five Star Recruits Signing with HBCUs

We can’t say Black Lives Matter and not protect our HBCUs programs.

A few months ago high school Basketball phenom from Compton Magic AAU, Mikey Williams hinted at signing with an HBCU, after receiving offers from Hampton University and Norfolk State University.

Today, five-star college Basketball recruit, Makur Maker signed to Howard University. For those that don’t know Howard University is in the MEAC Conference.

The last time big named basketball recruits signed with HBCUs were back in the 1970-90s with players such as Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Willis Reed, Earl Lloyd, Avery Johnson, Rick Mahorn and Leonard “Truck” Johnson to name a few.

However, with Makur Maker signing to Howard University this could be the move to spark more five-star Basketball recruits to sign with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Makur Maker is a 6’11 235 pound Center from Phoenix, AZ.

Markus Maker averaged 20 points per game, eight rebounds per game, four assists per game, three blocks per game, and three steals per game.

Maker also received offers from Kentucky, Memphis, UCLA, Alabama, Oregon, and USC.

Only time will tell if more high school basketball stars sign with HBCUs.

NASCAR Takes a Stand Against Social Injustice and Police Brutality Towards African Americans

In NASCAR, a predominantly white sport, Darrell Bubba Wallace Jr. showed insurmountable courage yesterday, by racing in a car painted in Black Lives Matter.

On the hood of the car, he had painted compassion, love, and understanding. Three things that are very important in this current climate, the protests have been going on for three weeks now, we have made some traction, big chain stores are taking action in speaking out against social injustices to African Americans and people of color.

But, that is only the beginning they need to also implement plans to better diversify their organizations in the board rooms, help underfunded African American neighborhoods and schools, speaking out against injustices is only the beginning, but far from the end.

A few weeks ago NASCAR drivers made a video speaking out against the social injustices and police brutality African Americans face in this country.

This week, they removed all the confederate flags at race tracks, this could be detrimental to their pockets considering the fan base for NASCAR is predominantly white southern males. NASCAR shows they’re willing to lose a few dollars to stand up to social injustice to do what’s right!

I don’t think this would have happened without Darrell Bubba Wallace Jr.

Darrell Bubba Wallace Jr. stated, “My next step would be to get rid of Confederate flags at race tracks.” That is exactly what he did.

Dallas Cowboys Bolster QB Situation Amid Dak Prescott’s Contract Conflict

This past Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys signed former Cincinnati Bengals starting Quarterback for nine seasons Andy Dalton, to a one year deal worth $3 million, with bonuses that could lead to a total of $7 million.

Currently, Andy Dalton is ranked 44th all-time in passing yards with 31,594.

Andy Dalton's career stats are 31.594 passing yards, 204 passing touchdowns, 118 interceptions, 1,221 rushing yards, and 22 rushing touchdowns.

Dallas signs a veteran quarterback who can lead this talented offense if Dak & the Cowboys front office continue to have issues completing a deal that both sides agree on.

Dallas has not a second to waste with championship contention window ticking, so signing a veteran Quarterback in Dalton was a smart idea.

Dalton's career recordas a starter is 70-61 in his career.

However, if everything goes as planned and Dak gets the deal he wants. Dalton will be a great backup Quarterback to have.

Dallas Cowboys Make Huge Splash in NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys shocked the world last with their first-round pick. The Dallas Cowboys selected star Oklahoma wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, with the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft last night. CeeDee Lamp was projected as high as going to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the 9th pick.

CeeDee Lamb turns Dallas offense from good to powerhouse! Defenses can no longer stack the back on Ezekiel Elliot with three good receivers in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb.

The player that benefits the most from the Cowboys drafting CeeDee Lamb is Ezekiel Elliot, he now will not have to face a stacked and can go back to bursting through the wide-open holes the robust offensive line will give him.

Dak Prescott has numerous options to throw to, Dallas and Dak must hurry up and get this deal done, so Dak and CeeDee can build chemistry and timing.

CeeDee Lamb had a tremendous three-year season with the Oklahoma Sooners. In those three years with the Sooners, he recorded 3,292 receiving yards, 32 receiving touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown.

CeeDee Lamb can do it all he plays the slot receiver or play the outside receiver; he is an electric player.

Dallas Cowboys offense will be nothing short of exhilarating if everyone stays healthy.

Dallas can now focus on bolstering the secondary and the pass rush.

Dallas still has six picks left to use in the draft, one pick in the second, third, and fourth round, two in the fifth round, and one pick in the seventh round.

NFC East First-Round Draft Predictions

All four NFC East teams have significant needs in the draft. I’m going to do my predictions for the first round.

Let’s go alphabetical order starting with the Runner Up in the NFC East standings last season Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys Needs: Secondary, Pass Rusher, Add Depth to Offensive Like

Dallas Cowboys needs significant secondary help, after losing Byron Jones in free agency to the Miami Dolphins. They also need another pass rusher to complement DeMarcus Lawrence on the other side of the defensive line.

Dallas also needs a slot receiver with Randle Cobb leaving in free agency to the Houston Texans.

Lastly, Dallas needs to address the QB situation for if Dak Prescott holds out.

Dallas needs to address the complementary pass rusher situation for if Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith aren’t reinstated or addressing the secondary issues. Dallas has been on life support with the safety position for a while.

I believe with pick 17 in the first-round they either trade back into the mid-20s to draft Xavier McKinney or draft LB pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson at 17 to add even more depth to the strong linebacker core and take some pressure off of DeMarcus Lawrence by getting to the Quarterback.

Wildcard first-round pick: Cornerbacks C.J. Henderson.

K’Lavon Chaisson had a very productive season with LSU this past season where he had 34 solo tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

If K’Lavon Chaisson brings that same productivity to the NFL he can help replace the loss of Robert Quinn to free agency to the Chicago Bears.

Xavier McKinnley can fix the Dallas Cowboys safety they desperately need, the signing of Ha Ha Clinton Dix is a good start, but having both of them at the safety position will put them over the top.

Xavier is a ball hawk he caused four forced fumbles this season, 59 solo tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, and one fumble recovered at Alabama.

Dallas desperately needs a secondary player that can force turnovers which they haven’t had in years. The last time a secondary player had five or more interceptions was safety Gerald Sensabaugh back in 2010. That’s a whole decade since Dallas had a ball hawk secondary player.

Philadelphia Eagles

Next up are this past season NFC East Champs Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia Draft Needs: Wide Receiver, Linebacker Depth, Offensive Line Depth

Philadelphia Eagles needs couldn’t be any clearer in what they need, say receiver three times in the mirror for good luck.

The Eagles receiving core dropped 19 passes this past season.

The Eagles have several options at the 21st pick.

I believe the Eagles pick Justin Jefferson at pick 21.

Wildcard first-round pick: Eagles trade up to draft Henry Ruggs III.

Justin Jefferson 6 feet 3 inches 192-pound wide receiver, finished with 111 receptions, 1540 receiving yards, and 18 receiving touchdowns this past season at LSU.

Henry Ruggs III, 6 foot 190-pound wide receiver, finished with 40 receptions, 746 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns this past season at Alabama. His numbers don’t do him any justice since we all know how much Alabama loves to run the ball which was shown by Najee Harris rushing for 1224 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

New York Giants

Next up will be the New York Giants.

New York Giants Needs: Linebacker Depth, Cornerback, Offensive Line Depth,

The New York Giants desperately need a linebacker which is why they signed Blake Martinez this offseason.

But, they still need another linebacker to complement him.

I predict the New York Giants will draft 6 feet 4 inches 230-pound Linebacker Isaiah Simmons from Clemson.

Isaiah Simmons finished with 67 solo tackles, eight sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Isaiah can add much-needed productivity to the New York Giants defense.

Wildcard first-round pick: New York Giants trade back to add picks and draft Tristan Wirfs.

New York Giants finished 25th in run blocking and 17th in pass protection. This shows how desperately they need to improve on the offensive line.

Tristan is an All-American 6 feet 5 inches 320-pound tackle who is versatile and can play Left or Right Tackle, which is tremendous value in itself. Why not help your franchise QB and star running back Saquon Barkley.

The last team up will be the Washington Redskins.

This a no brainer the Washington Redskins will draft future superstar 6 feet 5 inches 265-pound pass rusher Chase Young from THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

This is the second year in a row their first-round pick is a Buckeye.

Chase Young finished with 32 solo tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, and seven forced fumbles.

Wildcard first-round pick: Washington Redskins trade back to get Tua Tagovailoa if they aren’t fully sold on starting Quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

This draft should be very interesting!

Dallas Cowboys Continue to Bolster Defensive Line

Earlier this week, the Dallas Cowboys continue to strengthen their defensive line by signing former Pro Bowl Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe.

Dontari Poe reunites with his former Carolina Panthers teammate Gerald McCoy.

Dontari Poe had a decent season last year for the Panthers where he recorded four sacks, 22 combined tackles, and a career-high seven total tackles for a loss.

Thoroughout Poe eight seasons in the league, he has recorded 202 tackles, 31 tackles for a loss, 20.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

This will be a great addition to the Cowboys defensive line, they now have two game-changers that can win in the trenches from the inside, which will make star pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence job easier.

With Randy Gregory on the brink of possibly being reinstated into the NFL, this defensive line could be one of the best front four the Cowboys have had in years!

Also, by the Cowboys addressing their defensive line concerns, they can now focus on their secondary issues in the draft, where there is a plethora of talent at those positions.

Tom Brady Starts new Chapter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After 20 years of playing for the New England Patriots. Tom Brady has decided to move on from the organization and play elsewhere.

Tom Brady decided the next chapter of his football career will be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This a big splash for a franchise that has been starving for a championship-caliber team.

Tom Brady signed a two year deal worth $60 million.

The Buccaneers haven’t won a Super Bowl since 2003. Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t won a playoff game since 2003 and haven’t been in the playoffs since 2007.

Tom Brady brings them the championship mindset where he has won six Super Bowls.
This might be one of the most dominant wide receiver cores he’s had in a while. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are coming off 1,000 or more receiving yards season.

Last time Tom Brady played with a wide receiver tandem that both had 1,000 or more receiving yards season was in 2007 with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. That team ended up going undefeated in the regular season and didn’t lose a game until the Super Bowl against a luck driven New York Giants team.

We will soon see how the Tom Brady signing works out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
