Philadelphia 76ers Make Blockbuster Trade for Jimmy Butler

Today, the 76ers made a trade for Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler. The 76ers traded Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, and a 2022 second round pick, to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton.

The Sixers have been star searching for their final piece to create their own big three in Philly since last summer. After trading for Jimmy Butler, the search may finally be completed.

Although Jimmy Butler has been a headcase in both Minnesota and in Chicago, I believe he’ll fit in well in Philly considering Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid work hard, unlike the young stars in Minnesota, such as Andrew Wiggins & Karl Anthony-Towns.

Jimmy Butler tantrums finally got his wish and now has been traded to a team that’s ready to get to next level. Jimmy Butler has been averaging 21.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 4.3 assists per game this year.

Considering the continued struggles Markelle Fultz has been having it was time for a change. Since JJ Redick is a defensive liability, having him come off the bench is a necessity. Jimmy Butler may be the last piece to get the Sixers to claim the throne of the East and get past the Celtics and Raptors to face the NBA juggernaut Golden State Warriors possibly in the NBA Finals.

Why are Nike Professional Athletes Switching to Rival Shoe Companies?

After Nike supporting Colin Kaepernick, with the Nike Ad, believe in something even if it means risking it all, you would think that more professional athletes would without a doubt either extend their shoe deal with Nike or leave their rival shoe company and sign a deal with Nike.

Gordon Hayward, who plays for the Boston Celtics is coming back from a dislocated ankle and fracturing his tibia, an injury he suffered last season. Gordon Hayward has been with Nike for much of his career. But, Anta recently was able to sway him away from Nike to sign with them to a four-year deal worth $9 million. Anta is a Chinese based shoe company that has been around since 1994. Some notable names that represent Anta are Golden State sharpshooter, Klay Thompson, professional boxer, Manny Pacquiao, and LA Lakers Point Guard, Rajon Rondo. How did Nike let a player of Gordon Hayward caliber slip away from them?

Another star athlete that Nike lost, was DeMarcus Cousins. DeMarcus,  who is still recovering from a torn Achilles injury he suffered last season. DeMarcus is another star athlete to leave Nike. DeMarcus recently signed a massive deal with Puma. Some notable names that represent Puma are rapper Meek Mill, WNBA player Skylar Diggins, and NBA 2018 #1 draft pick DeAndre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns.

For years, rival shoe companies have been closing the gap with Nike. It’s only a matter of time before someone officially jumps to the #1 spot for the best sneaker company.

Who will dethrone Nike? Only time will tell, for more updated sports news follow us on Twitter and Instagram @blogaccess1on1.

Baker Mayfield Era Begins

Baker Mayfield entered the second quarter after Tyrod left the game to get checked out for a concussion. Mayfield entered the second quarter with one minute and 47 seconds left in the half, he completed three out of his four passes for 47 yards.

Baker kept up the same momentum in the second half. He made completion after completion. Baker threw an amazing pass to Jarvis Landry, that leads to a game-winning touchdown run by Carlos Hyde.

Baker Mayfield finished the game 17 for 23 throwing for 201 yards. He even caught a pass on a 2 pt conversion to tie the game in the fourth quarter,  on the famous play Philly special. Baker leads the Browns to their first win since 12/24/16.

There should be no question who starts next week at QB for the Cleveland Browns! The Cleveland Browns play the Oakland Raiders next Sunday.

Trouble in Pittsburgh

Yesterday, the Steelers finalized Le’Veon Bell will not be playing week 1, against the Cleveland Browns. Although Le’Veon, said in the off-season he will not be playing on the franchise tag again, and if the Steelers offered him another franchise tag contract, he would sit out.

The Steelers must have thought he was bluffing. Le’Veon teammates took to social media yesterday, to show their disapproval of Le’Veon decision.

Maurkice Pouncey stated, “Why play hide and seek? Why let your agent say this? Just man up and tell us what you’re going to do.”

Ramon Foster followed by saying, “He’s making seven times what I make, twice as much as Villanueva is making, and we’re the guys that do it for him.”

It sounds like some hating, is going on in the Steelers Organization. The sad part is both Foster and Pouncey are NFLPA reps. They should be backing their fellow teammate in getting paid, instead of bashing him publicly.

This is why the NBA, will always be light years ahead of the NFL.

The Le’Veon situation shows you the “NFL is a business” only applies to the owner, GM, etc. The moment a player makes a business decision, involving more money in a contract they become greedy and selfish. Seems like a double standard to me.

Le’Veon Bell has rushed for 5,336 yards, ran for 35 touchdowns, caught 2,660 receiving yards, and caught seven touchdowns in five seasons.

Why wouldn’t you want to pay a running back as versatile and healthy as Bell?

Saints Trade for Brees Successor

Today the New York Jets, traded away Teddy Bridgewater to the New Orleans Saints for a third- round pick.

This is a big move for New Orleans, it pretty much ends the conversation of who would take over the Saints offense once Drew Brees retires. All Bridgewater has to do is stay healthy.

During Teddy Bridgewater three seasons in the NFL, two of which he played and one where he sat out for the season due to a torn ACL. Teddy has thrown for 6,150 yards, 28 touchdowns, and a QB rating of 86.3.

Since Teddy Bridgewater now joins the Saints, he now can learn from the best Drew Brees, and grow as he waits for his time to come in New Orleans.

For the New York Jets, it’s pretty much finalized that rookie QB Sam Darnold, will be the Jets Week 1 starter at QB.

We will soon see who won this trade.

Can Dez Bryant be a good fit in Cleveland?

Dez Bryant was released by the Dallas Cowboys this past April.

Surprisingly, Dez is still without a job. He turned down a three year $21 million deal from the Baltimore Ravens.

Now there is a mutual interest between the Cleveland Browns and Dez Bryant.

Dez Bryant met the Cleveland Browns this past Thursday, but no deal was reached.

After the Browns trading Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills, and Josh Gordon still dealing with his personal problems. You would think the Browns needed a wide receiver ASAP, but with the emergence of rookie receiver Antonio Callaway, do they really need Dez Bryant?

Dez isn’t what he use to be, but he still can make big plays for the Browns offense. The real problem is can he fit in with the new culture Browns are creating positive energy and hard work no days off unless your leg is falling off as Jarvis Landry said on Hard Knocks.

Dez fits the hard work no days off description, but the positive energy is another story. We have seen his tirades on the sideline in Dallas when he doesn’t get his way. Does John Dorsey, Hue Jackson, Todd Haley really want to deal with that?

If this deal happens the Browns will have one of the best wide receiver cores in the league.

Maybe Jarvis Landry can keep Dez leveled headed, but only time will tell.

Philadelphia Phillies Trade for All-Star Catcher at Trade Deadline

The Philadelphia Phillies made a trade yesterday at the trade deadline, to add more depth to the catcher position.

The Phillies traded for All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos, from the Tampa Rays, pitcher Aaron Loup, from the Toronto Blue Jays, for a player to be named or cash considerations.

Although they have a catcher of the future in Jorge Alfaro, Ramos helps them become even more of a World Series contender. Ramos has put up some respectable numbers this season he's hitting .297, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and a .834 OPS.

We will soon see how Ramos will fit in with the Phillies offense, once he returns to the lineup from a hamstring injury.

How Will Dallas Cowboys Offense Move on Without Dez Bryant?

For starters star running back, Ezekiel Elliot is back, so that takes a lot of stress off of Dak Prescott and the rest of the offense. When the Cowboys drafted star offensive lineman, Connor Williams, this past April, Dallas has shown they were adding depth to the offensive line for if Tyron Smith goes down again.

Many people have been stating that opposing defenses, will be stacking the box on the Cowboy's offense since they don't have a legitimate deep threat receiver. In all honesty, does it really matter who stacks the box when you have the best offensive line in football and will pancake any defender in their way? On top of having one of the most elusive power backs in the NFL, that can make just about any defender miss tackling him with one move.

The Dallas Cowboys have really done a good job of keeping and add pieces that fit Dak Prescott play style. As we all know Prescott plays a very safe game. At times that good for him and at times it frustrates people that he doesn't take to risks downfield. But in Dak's first two years he has 45 touchdowns and has only thrown 17 interceptions. With numbers like that you really can't argue with his conservative play call.

But now without Dez Bryant, Cowboy's receivers must step up and make plays for Dak Prescott. I think the guy that will be a key component for the success of Dallas Cowboys passing game will be Allen Hurns. Hurns is a big deep threat that the Cowboys desperately need. Hopefully, Prescott and Hurns can get the chemistry they need through training camp and preseason games.

Also, Dak Prescott still has one of his favorite targets in Cole Beasley. After a letdown season, look for Cole Beasley to have a bounce-back season. There have been talks that Beasley is off to a fast start at training camp. Hopefully, he keeps this up and it leads to a big season for Cole Beasley.

Another addition that will help the Cowboys passing offense is Tavon Austin catching out the backfield and in the slot position. Tavon has some scary breakaway speed that fits Prescott style of play perfectly.

Terence Williams is the wildcard in the Cowboys offense. He has shown flashes of promise, but is very inconsistent and goes missing in big moments. But, yet in still he fits well in Prescott's play style which was the main reason they brought him back, but if he has another bad season, I could see him getting released.

We will soon see if the Cowboys offense will sink or swim without Dez Bryant.

What's Next for the Dallas Cowboys?

After cutting Dallas Cowboys All-Time touchdown receptions leader, Dez Bryant, the Cowboys now free up $8.5 million in cap space for the 2018 season.

Now the Dallas Cowboys need to address what is now a weak point for the team. The team needs to find a game changer deep threat wide receiver either in the draft or through free agency.

There are a lot of young talented receivers in the draft that could instantly help the Cowboys with their wide receiver problem. A name that comes to mind is Calvin Ridley from Alabama. Ridley had 63 receptions, 967 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns with the run-happy Alabama offense this past season.

Another potential wide receiver candidate in the draft is Maryland star wide receiver, DJ Moore. Moore had 80 receptions, 1033 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns. He could be the deep threat Dallas desperately needs.

Dallas should also look at star Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk. Kirk had 71 receptions, 919 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns this past season.

Some key wide receiver free agents that are still available, if they can stay healthy, are Eric Decker and Jeremy Maclin.

Eric Decker had a decent season in his one year deal with the Tennessee Titans. Decker did pretty well to be a third option for the young and talented Titans’ team. Decker finished this past season, with 54 receptions, 563 receiving yards, and one touchdown reception.

Jeremy Maclin, once a star wide receiver before the injuries, can easily return to stardom if he can stay healthy. Maclin played this past season with the Baltimore Ravens, where he had 40 receptions, 440 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

The Cowboys have several options to replace Dez Bryant. We will soon find out what option they choose.

Keys to Villanova Advancing to the National Championship

Tonight is the big night! Villanova faces Kansas tonight in a final four showdown at 8:49 PM ET, with a chance to punch their ticket to the national championship game.

In order for Villanova to win, they need to keep this a battle of the guards game. Especially when you have a guard like Jalen Brunson, AP men's college basketball player of the year.

Eric Paschall and Omari Spellman must draw out Kansas big man Udoka Azubuike, to clear the lane for Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges. Villanova as a whole needs to get Azubuike in foul trouble early before he gets their big men in foul trouble.

Phil Booth and Donte DiVincenzo will be the other key pieces Villanova needs to win. These two will need to add a spark to Villanova offense to take some pressure off of Bridges and Brunson.

If Villanova is able to complete this plan tonight, they will win by a huge margin!

Dallas Cowboys Add Deep Threat to Wide Receiver Core

Yesterday, Allen Hurns signed a two-year deal worth $12 million with the Dallas Cowboys.

This deal works well for both parties, Allen Hurns get a change a scenery and fresh start he desperately needs, and the Dallas Cowboys acquire the deep threat their offense desperately needs.

With the latest decline of Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant, everyone knew the Cowboys would be looking to bolster a weak wide receiver core. Allen Hurns could be the guy to help strengthen this wide receiver core.

This past year Allen Hurns had 39 receptions, 487 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. However, if he can play like he did in 2015 where he had 64 receptions, 1,031 receiving yards, and ten touchdowns the Cowboys offense could be in for a present surprise.

But, first Dak Prescott and Allen Hurns will need to gain chemistry and trust in order for this to work. Only time will tell if this will work.

Robert Quinn Adds Substance to the Dolphins Defensive Line

Robert Quinn, a two time Pro Bowler, First Team All-Pro back in 2013, was traded yesterday to the Miami Dolphins. Quinn and a 6th round swap pick were traded to the Miami Dolphins for a 4th round and 6th round swap pick.

From 2012-2014, Robert Quinn was one of the most feared defensive ends in the league. In 2013, Quinn racked up 19 sacks in a season. Some defensive ends don't even get that many sacks in three seasons combined let alone in one season.

But these past few years, Robert Quinn has dealt with hip injuries, back injuries, and a concussion injury that has had him sitting on the sideline, more than playing on the field.

Quinn still has two years and roughly $24 million left on his contract. This could be a big reason why the Rams traded him, especially after adding lockdown cornerback Marcus Peters.

The Rams have two key players that they need to resign this summer, Sammy Watkins and Lamarcus Joyner, so getting rid of Quinn’s $24 million appears to be a smart business decision, but only time will tell if they would be able to replace the defensive end who was able to compile 8.5 sacks and 21 tackles.

Miami on the other hand, will have a three headed monster defensive line with Cameron Wake, Robert Quinn, and Ndamukong Suh if everyone can stay healthy. If you combine their stats for this past season they would equate to 23.5 sacks and 105 tackles.

If they all stay healthy this upcoming season, this defensive line could be one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. Only time will tell if that happens, we just have to wait and see.
