Yesterday, two big wide receiver trades happened in the NFL. Two big name players will be in new places for the start of the 2020 NFL season.
Houston Texans-Arizona Cardinals Trade
The Houston Texans traded away star Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins and a 2020 fourth-round draft to the Arizona Cardinals for Running back David Johnson, a 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick.
DeAndre Hopkins is coming off his third straight season with 1,000 receiving yards or more.
This past season DeAndre Hopkins finished with 104 receptions, 1,165 receiving yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. Hopkins brings the Cardinals the deep threat they desperately need with Larry Fitzgerald being on the back end of his career.
Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins will be fun to watch next year, it’s almost as if the Arizona Cardinals received an early Christmas present.
The Texans, however, fill a running back need that they have been searching for years now. However, David Johnson is not the same David Johnson we once knew he has become injury prone over the years.
David Johnson rushed for only 345 rushing yards last season and two rushing touchdowns.
David is seen as a threat catching out the backfield, he showed flashes of that again last year where he had 36 receptions, 370 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns.
We will soon see how this trade works out for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.
Minnesota Vikings-Buffalo Bills Trade
Lastly, another big Wide Receiver trade happened last night with Stefon Diggs and a 2020 seventh-round pick to the Buffalo Bills, for a first, fifth, and six-round 2020 draft picks and one fourth-round 2021 draft pick.
The Minnesota Vikings received a plethora of lucrative draft picks to trade the speedy deep threat receiver.
Right after Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings agreed to a contract extension. Stefon tweeted “It’s time for a new beginning”. Later that night he got his wish and was traded to the Buffalo Bills.
This is a big move by the Buffalo Bills and shows they’re in win-now mode. Stefon Diggs gives Josh Allen the #1 big-time receiver he desperately needed.
Stefon Diggs is coming off his second straight season of 1,000 receiving yards or more. This past season Stefon finished with 63 receptions, 1,130 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns.
On the other Minnesota is loaded with these draft picks for the next two seasons. Minnesota Vikings will have the Buffalo Bills 22nd pick in this year's draft, where there will be a plethora of receivers to replace Stefon Diggs if they choose to go that route.
We will soon see how this trade works out for the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills.
